Searching the Internet
How
to find things on Internet is probably the most frequent user question.
Asking a couple of staff what they do when looking for information
on the web. This is list of favorite resources from their point
of view.
- "I use Internet all the time. I use it for checking spelling
and linguistic conventions and so forth. Since I'm Swedish I need
the language facilities which my favourite Search Engine Evreka
has. It's an offspring of Altavista
which used to be my allround helper. Other places I go for downloads
or info is download.com - and
of course the Microsoft site.
Macromedia gives many good
related links. A useful trick, if you want information on a specific
company, try adding .com after the company name. You might have
to try different additional things like use an underscore instead
of a space and so on" - Kent
- "Usually I just use
AltaVista as it is simple and fast. Recently I have
started to use AllTheWeb
as it is very fast and has
more pages indexed than any other search engine.
The best search trick is to use more than one search word
using the plus sign, (+keyword1 +keyword2) in order to get a
more narrow search or to use an exact phrase with
quotation marks around it. ("search engines"). - Larry
